Mumbai: Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has put an end to weeks of public speculation by confirming that her planned wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal has been called off. Smriti Mandhana, in an emotional Instagram post, explained that she is a private individual and had to speak up after rumours began circulating sudden postponement of the ceremony in late November.
Smriti Mandhana said the wedding is no longer on and asked fans and the media to respect the privacy of both families as they process the difficult time. She clarified that her primary concern is her career in cricket and that she is intent to keep representing India at the highest level. Her statement closed with a plea for space and compassion for everyone involved.

What Happened on the Wedding Day
The much publicised wedding was due to take place in Smriti Mandhana’s hometown of Sangli on 24 November. Pre wedding festivities had already begun, with several teammates from the Indian women’s cricket team in attendance. On the morning of the ceremony, Smriti Mandhana’s father Srinivas Mandhana suffered a medical emergency and was hospitalised. The organisers declared a postponement that was not to be made and shortly thereafter it was reported that Palash was also hospitalized due to health concerns after being stressed.
Initially both families reassured the public that the event was only delayed. But the removal of wedding posts from Smriti Mandhana’s social accounts and the player making public appearances without her engagement ring fuelled fresh speculation that the plans had changed more permanently.
Palash Muchhal Responds to Rumours and Announces Legal Action

Composer and singer Palash Muchhal issued his own message on Instagram Stories to confirm that the wedding was called off. He strongly denied widely shared claims that he had been unfaithful during pre wedding festivities. Palash explained that it was the most challenging time in his life and urged individuals to take a moment before they could make any conclusion based on unverified rumors.
He added that false and defamatory posts have had a personal cost and said his team will pursue strict legal action against those spreading lies. Palash was thankful to those that have stood with him and asked people to show dignity and restraint.
Friends, Family and the Cricket Community React
The sudden postponement last month prompted an outpouring of concern from teammates and friends. Importantly, Jemimah Rodrigues canceled a stint at WBBL to be with Mandhana at the beginning of the initial crisis, underscoring the fact that the cricketer is well supported. The two families remained low profile as the father of Mandhana received urgent care.
Now that both principals have issued formal statements, the cricketing community and fans are shifting focus back to Mandhana’s professional commitments as she prepares for upcoming national fixtures and her role in the Women’s Premier League with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
A Private Life Under a Public Microscope
This episode underlines the pressure that comes with celebrity life in India, where personal events quickly become public narratives. Smriti’s message emphasised a desire to protect family privacy and to move forward with dignity. Palash’s response stressed the harm of rumours and the need for people to avoid spreading unverified claims.
Both statements call for compassion and restraint at a time when both families are clearly dealing with emotional and practical consequences.
Looking Ahead: Smriti’s Cricket Focus and Palash’s Next Steps
Smriti Mandhana remains one of India’s leading batters and continues to be expected to captain the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the WPL and lead India in forthcoming international series. She said that her duty to represent her country is her sole goal and it is the main concern she will have.
Palash Muchhal, who rose to fame as a composer and singer, also plans to respond through legal channels while rebuilding his personal and professional life after this episode. Both have asked for privacy as they move forward, and both have made clear they wish the matter to be closed.
