Legendary Actor Dharmendra Passes Away at 89, Weeks Before His 90th Birthday

Mumbai: Bollywood has lost one of its brightest stars. Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most loved actors, passed away at the age of 89 on Monday in Mumbai. He left the world just weeks before his 90th birthday. The news has filled fans all over the country with deep sadness.

The veteran actor had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month due to breathing problems and was recovering at home. He breathed his last at his residence, surrounded by his family.

A Glorious Journey of More Than Six Decades

In 1960, Dharmendra started his film career with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. From there, he climbed steadily to become one of the biggest stars India has ever seen. During his lifetime, he starred in over 300 movies and proved that he could ace any role that comes his way. Be it romance, comedy, or action, the actor delivered unforgettable performances that made him a favourite across all ages.

Iconic Roles That Made Him a Legend

His most successful movies are Sholay, in which he portrayed the handsome Veeru, and Phool Aur Patthar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, and Pratigya. Millions of people fell in love with him because of his natural charm, a strong screen presence and a friendly smile. Still nowadays, several of his films are regarded as classics.

A Star Who Will Always Shine

In 2012, Dharmendra was awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in India, due to his contribution to the language of movies. His life, full of efforts and sincerity, motivated thousands of actors. His last screen presence will be in the movie Ikkis, which will be released on December 25. It will be an opportunity that fans will have to see him in a final time.

Dharmendra possibly passed away but his movies, his smile and his soul will be remembered in the heart of people eternally.
