Bengaluru: Luxury automaker and aerospace giant Rolls-Royce has expanded its presence in India with the launch of its newly-expanded GlobalCapability and Innovation Centre (GCIC) in Bengaluru. The facility inaugurated by Karnataka’s Industries Minister Dr. MB Patil British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron and senior company leaders marks the company’s largest capability hub anywhere in the world.
According to The Economic Times the centre will host engineering teams for civil aerospace and defence businesses, alongside global digital capabilities and enterprise services. It will also anchor critical corporate functions, making Bengaluru a cornerstone of Rolls-Royce’s worldwide innovation network.
Helen McCabe, Chief Financial Officer at Rolls-Royce said the expansion underlines India’s growing significance to the company’s transformation journey. “This centre reaffirms our commitment to India and will be our largest capability hub. We look forward to strengthening local talent, deepening partnerships and expanding our supply chain base in the country,” she noted.
Building on a 90-year legacy
Rolls-Royce has been present in India for nearly nine decades, supplying engines, engineering services, and developing local collaborations. Today more than 1,400 Rolls-Royce engines power platforms of the Indian Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army. Across its ecosystem over 3,000 professionals including 2,000 engineers contribute to global programmes.
As Moneycontrol reported, the Bengaluru centre is designed for 700 professionals and is expected to spearhead the company’s plans to double sourcing from India within five years integrating more Indian suppliers into its global supply chain.
Why it matters
The expansion reflects two parallel trends: global corporations strengthening their Indian capability hubs and India’s rising importance in aerospace, defence and advanced engineering. Analysts say that by investing in digital, AI-driven and engineering functions in India, Rolls-Royce is also aligning itself with New Delhi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in defence and technology.
