Mumbai:After years of rumours, delays and fears that the project had been shelved, Farhan Akhtar has finally confirmed that Jee Le Zaraa, starring Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif, is moving forward. The long awaited women led road trip movie is now back in motion, giving fans the update they have been waiting for since 2021.
What was once an exciting announcement turned into a long period of uncertainty. But now, Farhan has cleared the air and assured that the film is “very much alive” and ready to begin.
A Film Stuck By Schedules
One of the biggest challenges from the very beginning was matching the calendars of three of the busiest actresses in the world. According to reports, Priyanka Chopra’s packed international commitments created the longest delay. The global projects and travelling she does meant that it was almost impossible to lock a schedule that suited the whole team.
Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif were equally busy with their own line up of films and endorsements, adding to the overall challenge. Farhan described this long process of getting dates as “traumatic,” but also confirmed that everything has now been sorted.
Casting Male Co Stars Also Slowed Progress
Another unexpected roadblock was finding the right male actors for the film. Farhan, and the writers, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, needed the male co stars to face off including the popularity and screen presence of Priyanka, Katrina and Alia.
This creative choice stretched the casting timeline even further, as the team searched for names who fit the scale and vision of the story.
Actresses’ Personal Milestones Also Played a Role
Since the film, Jee Le Zaraa was announced in 2021, all three actresses went through major personal changes.
- Alia Bhatt became a mother to a daughter, Raha in 2022.
- Priyanka Chopra became a mother to Malti Marie in 2022.
- Katrina Kaif embraced motherhood in November 2025 with the birth of her baby boy.
With these important life moments unfolding, the film naturally paused, giving the actors time to settle into their new phases. Now that these milestones are balanced, Jee Le Zaraa has regained speed.
A Story Born From Priyanka Chopra’s Late Night Idea
The heart of Jee Le Zaraa goes back to a rainy night in Mumbai in 2019. Priyanka Chopra had been thinking about returning to Hindi cinema but wanted something new, something refreshing. That thought turned into an idea of an all-women road trip film, something Bollywood rarely attempts at this scale.
She immediately called her two real life friends, Alia and Katrina, and the trio agreed that they wanted to tell a story about friendship. This spontaneous call became the starting point of what is now one of the most anticipated Bollywood films.
Farhan Akhtar’s Commitment To the Film
Farhan Akhtar was very much invested in making this project become a reality. He even rejected the offers of acting roles in order that he could fully concentrate on directing the film. His recent reassurance “We’ll start soon”, is the strongest confirmation the film has received in years.
Jee Le Zaraa is expected to be a landmark moment for women centric cinema in India. Bollywood has very few big budget films where three leading actresses share the spotlight equally. Jee Le Zaraa promises a fresh take on friendship, travel and self discovery, told through the lens of three powerful female characters.
With Priyanka, Alia and Katrina coming together for the first time, audiences have high expectations from this emotional and entertaining road journey.
After constant rumours and delays, fans can finally breathe easy. Jee Le Zaraa is happening, and filming is expected to begin soon.
