Mumbai: Salman Khan’s much-awaited patriotic drama Battle Of Galwan might not arrive in cinemas on its announced release date of April 17, 2026. The latest buzz in the industry is that the makers are considering very seriously the postponement of the film release, since some key steps of the film production are still on.
While fans were eagerly counting down the days to watch Salman Khan bring a heroic real-life story to life, the team behind the film feels that rushing the process could compromise the final output. Considering the heart-wrenching and national significance of the topic, the filmmakers are eager to present an elegant and powerful movie.
Shooting And Reshoots Still In Progress
Even though the film has been in production for quite some time, the shoot is not fully complete yet. A new shooting schedule will commence on Monday, February 9, on the Golden Tobacco Factory, Mumbai and will go on almost a week. By the end of this schedule, a couple of days of filming will remain following which the film should be fully completed by the end of February.
However, filming is only one part of the journey. Next, the editing of the reshot sections will commence, which will be under the supervision of director Apoorva Lakhia, particularly in a movie, which has a huge scale and a heavy emotional tone.
Ministry Of Defence Clearance Adds To Timeline
Another crucial step that could impact the release schedule is the mandatory screening for the Ministry of Defence. Because Battle Of Galwan is based on real-life military events, it will have to be presented to the authorities in order to be approved and this may result in more time.
With both post-production work and official clearances pending, the makers feel that meeting the April 17 deadline might be difficult. Even Salman Khan himself is reportedly heavily engaged in the decision-making process and feels that the movie is worth taking his time and attention.
Salman Khan Wants A Perfect Final Product
Sources suggest that Salman Khan is clear about one thing: Battle Of Galwan should not be rushed. He desires the movie to appear attractive, emotional, and film-making particularly since it narrates a tale of courage and sacrifice, and nationalism.
While postponement is being strongly considered, the final call has not yet been taken. Salman Khan is known for making bold decisions, and there is still a slight chance that the film could stick to its original release plan. Nevertheless, the experts of the industry are sure that there are high chances of a delay, and a more accurate picture will become evident in the days to come.
About Battle Of Galwan
Apart from Salman Khan, the film also stars Chitrangda Singh in a key role. Salman will play the role of an Indian Army officer, Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu who was on the frontline during the Galwan Valley confrontation of June 15, 2020, a pivotal moment in Indian military history in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film is based on a chapter from the book India’s Most Fearless 3 (2022) by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh and draws inspiration from the real-life confrontation between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley.
With its powerful story, strong emotional core, and Salman Khan in a never-seen-before patriotic avatar, Battle Of Galwan is among the most anticipated Bollywood releases of 2026. The fans will now be forced to wait until an official announcement is made about the new release date.
