Mumbai: Kartik Aaryan’s latest romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has made a fair but restrained start at the box office. The movie was released on Christmas Day, and it was likely to ensure that the holiday spirit would boost the film, yet the impact of a good release and a high level of competition have restrained the initial results of the movie.
As per early trends and trade estimates, the film is expected to collect between Rs 6.75 crore and Rs 7.25 crore on Day 1. Some early reports even placed the figure slightly higher, around Rs 7.50 crore, before settling closer to the Rs 7.25 crore mark. These figures are now better than what was originally estimated, which had indicated a start of approximately Rs 5 crore.
Urban appeal and genre challenges
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has a largely urban appeal, and that reflects clearly in its opening-day performance. In recent years, romantic comedies have found it difficult to attract the masses unless they are supported by some incredible buzz or word of mouth. Although the film created curiosity, it failed to translate into a huge opening at all centres.
Another major factor affecting the collections was the crowded box office. Dhurandhar is still taking the theatres by storm weeks after release and Avatar: Fire And Ash has already occupied a big portion of screens and shows. As screens and audiences fragmented, the Kartik Aaryan film was struggling to take space and particularly in prime time.
How it compares to Kartik Aaryan’s past openings
In terms of career, this is a poor opening when compared to some of his previous hits. Pati Patni Aur Woh earned an opening of Rs 9.10 crore whereas Luka Chuppi earned Rs 8.01 crore on opening day. As a matter of fact, Tu Meri Main Tera Tumera offers him one of his worst opening-day numbers in the last six years.
Nevertheless, it remains in the top five Day 1 openings of Kartik, particularly without franchise films. His biggest openers remain Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 with Rs 36.60 crore and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 with Rs 14.11 crore. The film now needs to see if it can cross the Day 1 figure of Satyaprem Ki Katha, which had earned Rs 8.25 crore.
Weekend test and holiday advantage

The real test for the film begins now. Day 2 will be on a working day and this may cause a slight decline in case the first-day curiosity is not turned into great audience appreciation. That said, the Christmas to New Year period brings two holiday weekends, which could work in the film’s favour.
If word of mouth turns positive, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has enough breathing space to stabilise and grow over the weekend. Similar to other films like Param Sundari, Son of Sardaar 2, and Bhool Chuk Maaf that were released in a similar number in 2025, this rom-com will be very reliant on the response of the audience in the next few days.
