Mumbai: Kriti Sanon’s latest film Tere Ishk Mein has sparked intense conversation among viewers since its release. Although the Aanand L Rai film is rated in mixed reviews, it has also led to extensive debating, particularly about the emotionally charged storyline of the film and the main relationship.The story and its dynamics have been called toxic by many viewers, placing Kriti’s character Mukti at the centre of the debate.
Kriti Sanon Responds to the “Toxic Relationship” Debate
Addressing the reactions in an interaction with Zoom, Kriti offered a calm and thoughtful response to the criticism. The actress acknowledged how words like “toxic” and “red flag” have become part of everyday conversations around films and relationships. According to her, the strong opinions reflect how deeply personal cinema can be. She noted that a reaction of the audience usually depends on personal ethical opinions and that there is worth in conflict and debate. Kriti explained that what is important is that the audience is not wholly on one side of the characters against the other side of the character as real people are not perfect and can make mistakes without being evil.
Speaking specifically about Mukti, Kriti shed light on the emotional weight her character carries throughout the film. One of the most debated moments involves Mukti’s decision to give her child to her husband, a choice that has drawn both criticism and sympathy.
Kriti Sanon clarified that Mukti is a person with a heart who is highly sensitive and empathetic and this only increases the weight of guilt. She explained that the character is emotionally shattered in her own world, full of the notion that she might have ruined lives and contributed to the death of somebody without any intention to do so. In the case of Mukti, the guilt is not a one-time affair but an overwhelming one that defines every move she makes.
Tere Ishk Mein, which stars South star Dhanush in the lead, explores flawed relationships and the emotional consequences of love, loss and regret. There has been much talk about Kriti Sanon performance where many have hailed her as she played a very complicated and ethically challenging part though the movie itself is still in dispute.
Looking ahead, Kriti Sanon is set to appear in Cocktail 2, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. The actress recently shared updates about the project and described it as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail. In another conversation with Zoom, Kriti revealed that the film came into her life at exactly the right moment.
Following the emotionally charged experience of Tere Ishk Mein, she felt the need to step away from heavy material. Kriti admitted that the film had been draining and that she did not want to jump straight into another intense role.Rather, she was longing to something lighter, more entertaining and refreshing a genre she sincerely likes. That is when Cocktail 2 happened.
As Kriti Sanon spoke, the movie exploits a young, urban and fun romantic comedy zone, and yet deals with contemporary relationships. She disclosed that there are almost two grand schedules of shootings that are already completed, and also there is one more schedule which will be commencing shortly in Mumbai. She also teased that the film features fantastic music and that her look in Cocktail 2 will be very different from what audiences have seen her in before.
With Tere Ishk Mein continuing to spark debate and Cocktail 2 shaping up as a refreshing change, Kriti Sanon finds herself at an interesting crossroads.
