Mumbai: Kapil Sharma has now made a comeback to the big screen with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, but the film’s box office journey has begun on a disappointing note. Released in cinemas on December 12, the comedy sequel has failed to generate strong opening day numbers, falling short of expectations despite the popularity of its lead star and the familiarity of the franchise.
The film is the sequel to the 2015 release Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, which marked Kapil Sharma’s debut as a leading man in Bollywood. Although initially the former slowly gained following, it was never regarded as a huge box office hit. The second sequel now seems to be experiencing the same issues, but much sooner in its cinema release.
Strong Competition Impacts Screen Count and Footfalls
One of the biggest hurdles for Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 has been its release window. By the time the movie reached the theatres, a majority of the multiplex halls were dominated by the hit and miss action film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. In its second week, Dhurandhar is still attracting huge audience and it still remains the preferred movie among movie goers.
This strong competition severely limited the number of shows available for Kapil Sharma’s film, especially in prime time slots. Consequently, footfalls were low during the opening day and the comedy found it hard to pick up.
Social Media Reactions Add to the Trouble

Early audience reactions further affected the film’s prospects. Soon after the first shows, viewers took to social media to share mixed to negative feedback. Although some of them described it as a harmless one time watch, many of them described it as an average one. There were even more severe responses, such as viewers counting the film a total disappointment.
This negative word of mouth quickly reflected in the box office numbers, reducing curiosity among undecided audiences and impacting walk in bookings.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 Box Office Collection Day 1
On its opening day, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 earned an estimated Rs 1.75 crore at the Indian box office. The number was a surprise because comedy movies generally have a good opening, and particularly during a weekend. Another aspect of the film is a big ensemble cast, which usually serves to appeal to the wider audience, but this benefit never came to the sale of tickets in this case.
The situation is more concerning when it is compared to the first film. In India, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon had debuted at recalling 10.2 crore net. In contrast, the sequel’s opening day collection is nearly 83 percent lower, clearly highlighting the struggle.
Weekend Growth Looks Uncertain
Trade observers believe the road ahead could be tough for Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2. Negative buzz and intense competition mean that it might not be able to make a big jump over the weekend. The film might not be able to maintain momentum after a few days even in case collections are slightly better.
With a reported production cost of around Rs 35 crore, recovering the budget through theatrical earnings alone looks challenging at this stage.
About Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 stays rooted in the comedy genre and once again relies on situational humour and confusion driven storytelling. The story revolves around the character of Kapil Sharma, who has already married three women and is yet to get a chance to marry the woman of his dreams. The film builds its narrative around chaos, misunderstandings, and comic twists.
Alongside Kapil Sharma, the cast includes Manjot Singh, Hira Warina, Tridha Choudhary, Parul Gulati, and Ayesha Khan. The film also features seasoned actors like Asrani, Akhilendra Mishra, Vipin Sharma, and Sushant Singh.
While some viewers feel the film works as a light, family friendly entertainer, others have pointed out weak logic and repetitive humour.
OTT Release Could Offer a Second Chance
After completing its theatrical run, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is expected to premiere on JioHotstar. Many films that struggle in cinemas often find a wider audience on streaming platforms, and it remains to be seen if the Kapil Sharma starrer can get a second life on OTT.
